Cardiff at Christmas, Wales
Cardiff Opera House at Christmas
Cardiff gets pretty festive as Christmas approaches. It may not have the international reputation of Prague, say, or Strasbourg, but it does have some great backdrops to decorate. I’d always recommend an evening wander around Cardiff Bay, the regenerated Docks area that now showcases the Cardiff Opera House, historical buildings and lively new bars.

Meanwhile, in Cardiff’s City Centre, you can zoom around the open air ice rink in the Winter Wonderland fair.
Cardiff Winter Wonderland
I’d bring you more photos of the Winter Wonderland, including the mulled wine, the ferris wheel and Cardiff’s elegant City Hall, but the security guards stopped us taking photographs. Bah humbug!
So, with the exception of that Scrooge-esque experience, I’d highly recommend a weekend in Cardiff to rustle up some Christmas cheer.

That last image looks good. Cardiff must take on a new feel to it during Christmas.
I love the last photo…the movement of the people! That is too bad that you couldn’t continue taking pictures!
Well, why wouldn’t that Grinch of a security guard let you take pictures? The shots you got are awesome — entices me to see more! Happy holidays – thanks for sharing!
Well, weirdly they said that to stop paedophiles taking photos of children, they now stopped everyone from taking photos of the ice rink. Just in case.
I was stunned by this – (for many reasons) but apparently my friends with children run into similar issues at school nativity plays these days.
I’d be interested to hear whether anyone else has ever come across something like this!
I love Wales and Cardiff looks so lovely in your photos! I’ve only seen it in summer or fall, now I want to visit during the holidays too!
Loved the photos you did get…especially the “lighthouse”…too bad you couldn’t take more.
We’ve considered going to Wales in the past (circumstances didn’t cooperate), and photos like these help drive our travel decisions in large part.
The reason they gave you is a horrible comment on the state of things today
I like the motion in the last shot. It gives a nice feel along with the contrasting cool and hot colors. Nice work!
Thanks for all the feedback – and yes, Dominique, it is a horrible comment on the state of things today.
I used to live in Cardiff I did, and those photos are tidy!
Thanks!
